"Synesthesia Machine" is an artificial intelligence with synesthesia, it
will emit corresponding unique scents while perceiving human
facial expressions. Through the facial expression recognition
algorithm, it can analyze the facial expressions of the audience and
output the values of different emotions. At the same time, based on
these emotional values, the installation is driven to extract different
proportions of scent liquid and atomized and mixed to convert the
audience's facial expression into a unique smell.
Shaun Hu is a new media artist based in Shanghai/New York City. MS from the School of Engineering of New York University, MA & BA from the School of Design of China Central Academy of Fine Arts. The interdisciplinary background of art and engineering makes his art combined with technology. His works have been exhibited in more than 40 exhibitions around the world and won many awards: 2022 Future Art Award (US), 2022 Chinese Universities Digital Interactive Art Competition (CN), 2022 Paris Cinema Awards Best Fantasy (FR), 2021 Asia Digital Art Award FUKUOKA (JP), 2021 enlightV Future Media Academy Award (CN), shortlisted for the Lumen Prize 2018 (UK), won 2016 Artand the Most Outstanding Young Artist of New Media Art (CN).
